How you can promote good security in your workplace
Everyone can play their part in delivering good security protocols, regardless of their role. Whilst your onsite security team are specifically carrying out security-related tasks, you could be a very useful extension to that team.
It is in everyone’s interest to protect the staff, visitors and assets of your business.
There are different layers of security and those who are not working in a security role are potentially more likely to spot something (or someone) which doesn’t feel right, because they are not seen as ‘security’.
Below are some tips explaining how you can help promote good security in your workplace:
Reporting Suspicious Activities
We encourage employees to report any suspicious activities or individuals you encounter on-site. This can include reporting unauthorised personnel, unattended packages or bags, or any behavior that seems out of the ordinary. Make sure you know who to report concerns to and that you feel comfortable reporting concerns.
Access Control
Employees should be mindful of access control measures and follow established protocols. This includes wearing identification badges visibly, not sharing access cards or passwords with unauthorised individuals, and challenging unidentified individuals who attempt to gain access to restricted areas. By adhering to access control policies, employees can help prevent unauthorised entry.
Physical Security Measures
Employees can actively contribute to physical security by keeping doors locked when not in use, reporting broken or malfunctioning locks or security systems, and maintaining a clean and organised workspace. Please be mindful of propping doors open, as it compromises security protocols.
Continuous Improvement
Please provide feedback and suggestions for improving security measures. You may have valuable insights or notice vulnerabilities that others may have overlooked.
Emergency Preparedness
Make sure you know the location of fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and emergency exits.
